Job Interview Questions
- Q.) What do you do for fun?
- A.) Plenty of employers and friends ask me what I like to do in my spare time. Most of the time I'm in front of a computer, doing things such as: building web sites for people, checking email, surfing the web, or doing research for an employer. When I'm not doing that I tend to be going to school (college), doing homework, watching TV, hanging out with friends, or at the movies.
- Q.) How would you rate your communication skills?
- A.) People say that I would do great at receptionist or call center positions because I am a "people person". I would say that I am good at communicating with anyone and not just customers/clients.
- Q.) How well can you multi-task?
- A.) I'd say that I could honestly multi-task pretty well. For example I can work on the computer doing database design or data entry while answering phones.
- Q.) Describe the job you have held in the past that was most gratifying.
- A.) That is an extremely tough question because I found all my prior jobs equally gratifying. The reason for this is cause i've been able to learn a few new things from each job and they kind of compliment and build onto each other.
- Q.) Can you work under pressure?
(Are you able to meet aggressive deadlines? Do you have experience doing so in the past?)
- A.) I can work fairly well under pressure, but prefer to have deadlines that are spread far enough apart where deadlines are a must. I would have to say that the closest I've ever come to being put in a position in which I needed to meet aggressive deadlines would be in my position at the Department of Campus Life at TCC.
- Q.) Do you like working alone or in a team environment?
- A.) I consider myself a team player and prefer working with others but if need be I can work alone with no problems.
- Q.) Describe a professional skill you have developed in your most recent job.
- A.) I'd say that a key skill that I have learned and developed in my most recent job is creating and managing Access 2007 databases. I am far from having mastered this skill on account that I have yet to learn VB Script and C#. I'd consider my skill level in Access Database Administration more intermediate at present.
- Q.) Why have you held so many jobs in recent times?
- A.) That's a very fair question: Work study jobs have a tendency to do that to people. Go to one department one semester and next semester end up in a different department of the same college or university.
- Q.) Describe your management style.
- A.) I'd say that if I became a supervisor or manager of a company or project I'd probably be one of those that notify the employees that I was managing what their assignments were and then check in from time to time. If disciplinary action had to be taken I probably wouldn't hesitate to take disciplinary action against the said employee.
- Q.) Describe a situation in which you've applied your skills to solve a problem.
- A.) Most of my problem solving experience is related to one of the following: debugging code (in HTML, in PHP, in CSS) and in troubleshooting computer problems (i.e. internet down, computer crashes, computer running slow, network or internet running slow, etc.)
- A.) One situation that comes to mind is when I was working at Easter Seals and they had computer problems (usually due to a disconnected cable or a lack of proper computer maintenance [defrag, clear temp files, clear prefetch files, clear cookies], and they would call me up and ask me to take a look at the machine. When I got to the machine they'd be freaking out and not knowing what needed to be done to fix it. Then I'd ask them a series of questions: What is it doing? How long has it been happening? etc. and based on the answers i'd receive i'd be able to deduce what the problem was and how to fix it.
- Q.) How much experience have you had with computers?
- A.) Where do I begin? I have been working with computers since roughly middle school and taught myself quite alot about computers. As you can see in my resume I have a whole section geared towards computer skills that I have learned over the years entitled "Computer Skills"
- Q.) What new skills or ideas do you bring to the job that other candidates aren't likely to offer?
- A.) My being able to speak spanish is an asset that not all job candidates have.
- Q.) What would your colleagues tell me about your attention to detail?
- A.) They would say that I am a perfectionist, that if i can't get something right the first time I usually don't give up until it's just perfect.
- Q.) Everyone has a favorite class in college. What was yours?
- A.) I'd have to say that it's a toss-up between: Database Concepts (CGS 1540), Computer User Support (CIS 2401), and Interpersonal Communications (SPC 1017)
- Q.) How do you go about making important decisions?
- A.) I use logical reasoning and process of elimination where applicable. Failing that, I generally use common sense.
- Q.) Do you prefer continuity in structure or frequent change in your daily work?
- A.) I like a combination of both actually. I'm more of a person that likes continuity with a bit of change from time to time.
- A.) Too much change can drive me crazy, too little change can drive me to boredom.
- Q.) What are your work-related goals for the next few years?
- A.) by April or May 2011 I expect to graduate from college with my associates and continue to work part time.
- A.) by 2015 I expect to graduate with my BS and start working full time in my career field.
- A.) My dream job would probably be an MIS position.
- A.) My fall-back job is probably going to involve either Computer Programming or Database Administration and Database Design.
- Q.) What positions are you interested in applying for?
- A.) I'm currently looking to apply for positions in the field of computer technology such as Help Desk Technician, Database Analyst, Desktop Support Technician, Web Developer, and Local Area Network Administrator (LAN Admin).
- Q.) Are you interested in working full time?
- A.) Only if the full time position can be split between two people.
- Q.) Would I be willing to work 3rd shift/night shift?
- A.) Not at this time.
- Q.) What shift are you interested in working?
- A.) Shifts will vary depending on class schedule for the college semester. In Fall term 2008 I'll be looking for a morning shift position. In Spring term 2009 it may change to afternoons.
- Q.) Would I be able to work for more than one college semester?
- A.) Yes, ideally I'd like to have a paid part-time position that's permanent, but I'll also apply for temp positions, contract positions, and unpaid internship positions.
- Q.) When is the best time to call me?
- A.) Evenings after 5 PM US EST
- Q.) Do you have experience in Law?
- A.) Not really, the closest I've gotten to it was working for the State of Florida in a position titled OPS Law Clerk.
- A.) The only other law-related experience I've had was in writing technical documentation such as Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, etc. for Sharper Tech.
